The Alaska Guardhouse is located in Fort William H. Seward, a registered historical landmark in Haines, Alaska. Completed in 1904, Fort Seward was the first permanent army post in Alaska. When the fort was in operation the Guardhouse served as the jail with 4 cells and offices for the military police.

 

Your hosts, Joanne and Phyllis, live in the home and invite you to share it with them. It is centrally located only 4 blocks from downtown and two blocks from the waterfront. The rooms and living area have been renovated with modern conveniences but still keep the flavor of the original architecture.

 

Guests have shared use of the common areas of the home.  The expansive living room with views of Lynn Canal and the mountains beyond is where you can play board games, enjoy the log fire, or just visit with friends, old and new. The kitchen is shared with other guests and the owners. The glassed-in front porch makes a perfect spot to enjoy your morning coffee, basking in the warm sun-filled room overlooking the main military square with historical buildings. The sunny back deck is where you can enjoy an evening cocktail with fantastic views of the town, mountains, and water, or use the Weber grill to cook up your daily catch of salmon or halibut.

 

The Guardhouse has 3 comfortable rooms to choose from--

Room #1: double bed with bath across the hall. Maximum occupancy 2

Room #2: two queen beds and private bath with tub/shower. Maximum occupancy 4

Room #3: two queen beds, a small sitting area, and private bath with shower. Maximum occupancy 4

Room 4  is a studio apartment and is available for stays of 28 days or more in the summer. 2 night minimum Oct 1-Feb 1. It has a private entrance and kitchenette.

 

All rooms have wi fi, mini-fridge, and flat screen TV with Firestick.

Coin op laundry on site for guest use.

Free shuttle to the Alaska Marine Highway dock and the airport

No Pets (A small dog lives on the premises but is not allowed in the guest rooms)
